This was an interesting bit of information. As a college student, I would naturally refer to those who worked in admissions as an "admissions counselor." I think the reason for this was because, as a student, I tell the rep what I wanted to do, and they would "counsel" or "advise" me as to what major I should probably apply for at their respective college. I see the flip side of the coin, in that we are selling a product, our institutions education versus another. However, there is definitely, a debate to be had here. By taking away the title of "counselor" or "adviser" it seems to me that we might be taking away a positive element from the whole admissions process. By merely, referring to admissions employees as representatives or agents we seem to lower their identity to merely salesmen. I think this may become a bit destructive instead of it's intended purpose to regulate and keep institutions accountable. I don't want my employee's to view themselves as merely salesmen or agents. I want them to hold themselves to a much higher ethical standard than what our society attributes to salesmen and agents of those selling a product. I want them to understand that an education is more than a product, it is an identity. Your education forms you and makes you who you are as a person. In this sense, anyone who works in an admissions office should have the students best interest in mind in how they communicate and represent the institution and education they are promoting. To this end, their standard of ethics should be at it's highest level.

In the introduction, I read that it is not proper to offer discounts. What is this specifically referring to? As an institution of higher education, we give out scholarships for various reasons. When I worked in secondary education a 50% discount was given to all staff who had children that wanted to attend the school.

Do the right things mean following all of the policies and procedures as stated by the institution. It also means making sure your institution stays in compliance and with the state licensing agency and other program related agencies.

I recently heard of the NACE exam offered for nurses seeking further education. Has anyone else heard of this? If so, how have you incorporated them into your admission requirements and/or utilize the results for course credit transferability?

Placement is a course long process and doesnt just happen at the end. Schools that are always better at placing students.

I always thought that a sealed transcript was official whether sent directly from the institution or brought in by the prospective student. At my current institution if a student brings it in it is unofficial even if sealed. Is this correct?

By going through the admissions staff training process you have the opportunity to take part in the admissions meeting which is very beneficial in renewing your license.

Any student who transfers among postsecondary institutions that are fully accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education and that participate in the statewide course numbering system shall be awarded credit by the receiving institution for courses satisfactorily completed by the student at the previous institutions.
