critical thinking when there are multiple variables.

Student's are much more responsive when the road to the answer is a definitive path and result. In the health field there are a multitude of variables and results change case by case. This can sometimes frustrate students. Are there ways to explain the the critical thinking needed for this type of learning? How do I keep the exasperated student calm and focussed?

THE TO DO LIST

Hello to all,The to do list is a must for us all. I have been using one in my personal and professional for years.Yes often it rolls over into the next day but it really helps to manage time and sterss.

asking students permission

teaching in a clinical situation can be difficult if the student's focus is wrong. Asking their permission to demonstrate to them again what they are needing to do and then sitting to watch them can bring them back to the proper focus and technique.

Classroom Management with Students Older than Instructor

I've been instructing for 3 years now. I truly found my passion and what provides me with fulfillment. Due to the economy students between the ages of 40 - 55 are returning back to school, along with new graduates from high school. I admire these students for their courage and decision to return. I also view them as a positive example to the younger students. Displaying that you can return to school knowing that age is not a factor and having the attitude of not being to "OLD" to still receive an education is AWESOME! But sometimes I'm viewed as being a child who doesn't know anything and how am I going to teach them anything. I hold several academic credentials and 12 years of experience in a variety of courses including healthcare, administrative office and clinical procedures, medical insurance, and education. Often times I find it difficult to manage a class with students who are considered my elder. Age is used as a factor when I provide corrective critism, explain the classroom rules or give an assignment. I questioned my ability as an instructor. After completeing Managing the Adult Classroom, I've learned what management style I have. Also how to professionally present and demonstrate myself as a GUIDE. These methods will be used in both my professional and personal life.

Instructor reducing stress

The stress in your class is depending on the instructor. The instructor will also be carefull not to bring his/her personnal issues in the class room that can be stressful to the students.

Making your classroom stress free.

As an instructor making the classroom stress free is important. I make sure the students don't talk too much about their personal problems in the class room and also to respect each other to avoid conflict which can cause stress to the other students.

Being prepared for class

As an instructor lecture preparation is a must. it helps the class knows the objectives for the day and what is expected of them at the end of the day. I find that it helps them to stay focused.

Encourage a to do list

As an instructor i find that having the students do a to do list will get them better prepared for the workforce. They will beable to pace themselves and prioritize and accomplish a lot more throughout the day

Language Barriers

I have noticed that with increased diversity in the classroom, there are more problems associated with language barriers to the students. I am not sure what would be the best way to handle this since it is hard to tell if it is the material they are struggling with or how I am explaining it. Any thoughts?

Are you keeping students attention?

If you students are asking questions about something you have said, or are getting involved in the discussion by offering their opinions, and wanting to challenge someone else's opinion.

Stress Eliminators

When I'm stressed I like to take atleast 30 minutes of the day to eliminate stres. Walking, excersice, and quiet time. That helps me refocus and get back on track.

Stress

Stress can be dangerous. Some people think it's productivity when in actuality it can damage you. It weakens the immune system and could also casue hypertension and burnout.

Making time

I like to set aside a certain time of the day for clerical task because it is time consuming.
