Instructing Learner with Disabilities

For assignments use simple and brief wording, use fewer steps with sequence in a manner that lead to a effective approach to the task that can be preformed by the students in a limited amount of time

Testing

Selecting the best types of testing with all the different learning styles in your classroom is very important to help determine how well your students are progressing.

Assessments

Using different types of assessing outcomes are necessary in most classrooms simply because of the different learning styles you encounter with each class.

Questions in classrooms

I think questions during class are as important for the instructor as they are for the student. They are a great form of communication as well as validation of the material being covered. It also is a reminder to be cognizant of the differing learning styles present in each classroom.

Learning styles

I think it is vital to identify each students learning style and be able to provide a classroom enviornment that is conducive to those styles, thereby promoting learning, self esteem and encouragement to achieve their goals.

LEARNING STYLES

Students learning styles varies, which means as an instructor, I must enhance my teaching that all students are gaining knowledge of the material. Versatility within a classroom is a must.

First Impressions

Introduction Icebreakers are sufficient

Introduction Icebreakers

I utilize students introducing themselves not only as a tool for me to get to know something about the student, but also as an icebreaker to help the student learn about each other and to take away anxiety a student may be experiencing.

Preparing Early and Carefully

When preparing for class, it is very essential that you perpare early and consider the lesson being taught for that day. Waiting until the last minute to prep for class is never a good idea as it creates difficulties in ensuring that pertinent information is covered. I do not put a time on "prepping" for class becuase I am more concerned with making sure that my students are learning the objectives for the course, than the time it takes to prep. Preparing early is always a great idea!

Teaching Styles

As an experienced instructor, it is evident that not all students perceive information the same. I choose to utilize various teaching styles depending on the course that I am teaching at that particular time. As a Business/Accounting instructor, I must ensure that the teaching style is conducive to the students gaining knowledge of the subject matter in which I am teaching.

Organizing student learning groups

When organizing learning groups give students an outline to help stay on task, move around the classroom check each group progress.

Developing your communication skills

Class management strategies

The number of steps and the amount of explanation should be no more than needed to make the hard call when managing studemts behavior

Using Blooms Taxonomy to determine if your teaching style is getting t

Incorporating Blooms questioning techniques into your sectional review, or even your daily review should be able to give you good indicators of whether or not your presentation of the information is being retained or better yet there is actual comprehension of the presented information, and if you are really lucky some students may even be able to demonstrate practical application with few mistakes. If you are unfamiliar with Blooms it is a multi step process way to stimulate students’ thought processes. Step one is knowledge, a simple recall of info. Step two comprehension. Step three application. Step four analysis, etc. I use this method of questioning the students to see how much of the information I presented that day has been retained and depending on the primary “sensory modalities” I was using that day Is how I will try to tailor tomorrows discussion. After watching the trend in comprehension for a couple of days I believe I have a pretty good feel for the best way to reach the largest percentage of the class efficiently and effectively.

Reinforcement and Praise

I believe reinforcement and praise are both personal, how can you differentiate situations for both to be used?
