Best Practices

Some of my best practices for online teaching include:

1) Getting to know my students through the Introduction Discussion Board. I read their bios and comment on them, showing commonalities whenever possible.

2) Contacting my students early in the first week with a welcome message.

3) Responding quickly to student's questions, wether they email me, call me, or text me.

4) Grading promptly and providing detailed, personal feedback.

I think is to goo to send a welcome message to the student a week before the class.  First impression is always key.  It will make the remaining flow of the on line class organization and comfort of the student very recepitive.

It is very important to keep students informed about what is expected in order to be succesaful in the course. Keeping students informed of changes by sending out announcements, answering emails promptly and giving prompt feedback for all disscussion questions has helped. It is a great idea to send out a welcome message at the start of the class.
