GRADUATE RESUMES

I loved the idea of implimenting on our school website the area for our graduates current resumes to be on file for potential hiring companies. However is their a consent form needed so their contact information can be publicly shared?

Workflow

I think that the workflow of the process is so important. It eliminates so much confusion. This is something that I wish we would use.

Important topic for Online campuses

Timely instruction!

I am so thankful for this training. Even though I see all of our students as the wonderful people they are, I want to be better prepared to handle questions of our LGBTQ students to get them ready for the workforce. This course has done just that. Thank you for broaching this topic in such a wonderful & effective manner!

The course was helpful.  I will implement an Exit interview for job placement

Career Services PLN

Hello-

Would anyone be interested in forming a PLN for online career counselors on The Educator's PLN (http://edupln.ning.com/).  While I find most information universal, ther is a distinct difference with online counseling as students are remote and the lack of face to face interaction can seem to be a barrier sometimes.  If interested, please let me know and I will investigate creating the group.

Respectfully,

Columbia Southern University

Effective CSA Dept.

The Career Services Department impacts the entire institution. From the moment a student walks through the door - the entire faculty and staff including Career Services Advisors are responsible for connections inside and outside the institution employer connections.  We call this "networking."  The Bigger Picture proves that students, faculty, staff, graduates, employers, and the community all benefit from a well run and networked Career Services.

My next step will be to get an email out to employers with the services ECPI Career Services Dept. will offer them to generate confidence and networking on a comprehensive level.

Former ACICS career services professsional

After being with ACICS, I felt it necessary to review the CS procedures to ensure that I understood compliance correctly.  This was a good refresher course and I would recommend it for anyone regardless of how many years in CS they have.  One can sometimes forget things that are important.

Strategic Placement

I have found in my experience that Career Services should position itself in three places. This was definitely reinforced by the information in this training module.

  1. Admissions – Have the admissions representative send all new students/perspective students to the Career Service Department, where you or a member of your team can give them a brief 10-15 min oversite on the department and services.
  2. New Student Orientation- During new student orientation I take a complete hour of the student’s time, hand out business cards and give a more in depth in site to career services and team. I also tell them

Career Services Training

This is an interesting take on Career Services after being in a Career Services role for over a year. I feel as though this will help me to better prepare my students and graduates for the workforce and increase my team's understanding of the vital role Career Services will play in years to come.

Trust but Verify

Trust but Verify all data collected by internal and external staff can be one key to having successful placement data. Lessons learned as shown that internal staff can sometimes over look simple placement errors and by checking and verifiyng on a regular basis helps keep your institutions placement data pure.

my personal Career Services dept. list

Strengths: Welcoming, personable with students & grads, effective in career path & focusing attention on career goals & their outcome. Very motivational to students meeting goals without judgement or beligerance. Organized in tracking, quick response to student requests. Flexible with scheudlue to accommodate student/grad needs. Helpful with co-workers needs/information

Needed Improvements: Carving out time for focusing on daily tasks. So focused on "putting out fires", that routine suffers occaisionally.

Great Training!

Great content and applicable information to enhance my knowledge!

Applying what I have learned

Based on this training, I have learned that being more intune with an on line presence is extremely important in this day and age. Things are changing daily and we have to keep up with the changes if we want to suceed in the job market and want our students to suceed in the job market. I plan on updating my on on line profile, make an avatar, have a hyper link to my profile and URL. I plan on having an on line BIO and helping my students see the need for this as well as seeing the need… >>>

CS103-resume, cover letters, thank you letters

I really appreciate this course. I have been a career services director for approx. several years and many of the Ideas that are presented here I have used. But the way it is explained with all the up to date info and use of technology is amazing. I am going to use this info with my classes on job searching, branding, resume writting, asking for people to be references. This is great information. The challange I have is that many of the students are somewhat lazy when it comes to putting this together. They want us to do it for… >>>

How often to update?

Hello,

I think the information regarding placements, graduating rates, time to complete program and local salaries is all awesome measures to look at while developing information for not only potential but current students/graduates. My question is, how often do we update these stats? Every Year, Every Six months? These numbers can fluctuate constantly, and I was just wondering when would be a good timeline.

Good Information

Always great to have a refresher every now and then! Helpful information.

Sound job seeking skills, only MORE so!

So folks with convictions are MORE reliant on word of mouth networking and personal introductions when it comes to landing interviews and job offers.

Hiring managers may be more willing to listen to the full  story, and show more confidence in offering a position to a convicted felon IF a trusted co-worker or employee has given a recommnedation.

This is the best way in the door for ALL job seekers, but when a person has this "extra" obstacle, it is easy to see how personal networking will benefit folks in this situation.

Great site for military translation to civilian skills

We use O*Net (www.onetonline.org) quite a bit to help our prospective students, current students, and graduates understand better how their degrees can get them to the goal of specific job titles, geographic locations, and salary ranges. Part of their site includes links to great resources for customizing job searches and resumes. The military resource is www.mynextmove.org. There is a link on this site that allows you to enter specific terminology and skills from military positions, and translates them into civilian terminology. http://www.mynextmove.org/vets/find/military

Different Way of Thinking - Finding Veterans Employment

I believe that the STAR Method is one of the biggest skills we can give our students and graduates.

It is used in all industries and is the best way to assess if someone has problem solving ability.  With my students, I first ask them to write out an answer to a few questions and make it something that they can easily talk about during our meeting.  Once we go over the points of their story, I show them how to categorize the different sections based on their own experiences.

Just teaching them what it means, didn't work for me… >>>
