This module went over the different ways that my institution may use to promote its programs. It's important to know the educational programs offered, and the differnt services provided by career services.

This was enlightening and I'm excited about the many ways to learn about programs to communicate about them to students. While I have worked in higher education for a long time, it was rare to see admissions representatives request to attend a class. However, I love this idea and am excited to interact with faculty in their classrooms in order to be able to communicate the experience to prospective students. This also covered the importance of the marketing plan, and really understanding the goals that drive the use of each type of media, and what the important message about each program is.

I learned that it is extremely important to have an opne line of communication with your students. Do they need help in academics? Do they understand the programs? The more I know as a Admissions Director or Administrator, the better I will be able to communicate with all departments and the students. Nothing beats first hand experience.

I really enjoyed the ideas of visiting places that relate to courses provided. Also, Reading the catalog, talk with personnel in the education department, sit in on classes, and talk to the placement department to learn where grads work. Talking to Alumni might help as well to gain your own knowledge about the courses you offer and the outcomes.

Understanding how an institution can decide on any marketing strategy that it believes will be effective, as long as Fair Consumer practices are followed, allows us to have a range of opportunities. Marketing decisions also depend on the budget, among other things.
