Rubrics are not a "one size fit all". It takes adequate time and effort to create based on what is being evaluated. Rubrics can prevent students from making unnecessary or repeated mistakes if they know what and how they are being evaluated up front. Disadvantage of rubrics is the fact that it could be difficult to grade when it comes to artistic creativity. This can be harmful to those with learning disabilities.
I understand that the rubric will guide the student in completing their assignment correctly and allow the instructor to grade and make necessary changes to help the student be successful in their submitted work.
Rubrics can help students and the instructor know what is expected of them as it relates to their assignments. It can also help the instructor grade the assignment adequately and fairly.
A rubric can be a useful tool to help an instructor assess student work. It can be holistic (generalized), or analytic (specific). Advantages of using a rubric include: gives the students a guide so they know the requirements of the project, and it can shorten grading time for the instructor. Another advantage of using a rubric is consistency in grading when there are multiple graders. Disadvantages of using a rubric include does not allow for creativity or outside circumstances, and they can be time consuming to create and need revision. I like using a rubric when grading because it helps me be consistent in grading from one student to another, and it gives me a framework for providing substantive feedback to the student.
I learned that rubrics provide clear expectations for students while also helping instructors grade assignments fairly and consistently. I plan to use rubrics to guide students before assignments and provide specific, meaningful feedback that supports their continued growth.
I have a better understanding
Rubrics are good in helping students understand the assignments better and guide the direction of what they are discussing, making sure to hit all the objectives of the requirements.
Rubrics should not be a one size fits all and should be clear for students to follow and utilize.
Rubrics may need to be re-evaluated over and over until they are the best fit their purpose.
There are different types of rubrics including: holistic, analytic, general and task-specific. While necessary, rubrics can have sme disadvantages which include the fact that they can be time-consuming, can limit creativtity, and artistic work may be difficult to access using a rubric.
Advantages and disadvantages of rubric use. Different types of rubrics and their uses. Always making rubrics accessible to the student prior to starting the project.
The rubric sets clear expectations and allows for feedback.
Las rubricas si bien son necesarias porque ayudan a especificar los resultados de aprendizaje que se esperan tambien son dificiles de crear para que midan todo lo que se quiere, sobre todo en casos que se requieran creatividad por parte de los estudiantes.
I learned that rubrics help make expectations clear for students and make grading more consistent for instructors. They also provide better feedback so students can understand their strengths and what they need to improve. I plan to apply this by using rubrics in my assignments to guide students and make evaluation clearer.
When students receive rubrics before completing the assignment, they understand how they will be evaluated and can prepare accordingly. Developing a rubric and making it available as a tool for students' use will provide the scaffolding necessary to improve the quality of their work and increase their knowledge.
The standards for excellence in a writing rubric remain constant throughout the school year; what does change is students' competence and your teaching strategy. Because the essentials remain constant, it is not necessary to create a completely new rubric for every writing activity.
I know rubrics are great grading tools for many types of assignments. The explanations and reasoning provided so far, encourages me to continue creating and revising them for more assignments in my program.
Hard skills and soft skills get combined more then I originally thought
I want to make my rubrics more analytical to make the feedback more specific. Many of the rubrics we use in the courses I teach are already constructed for me. I do find this limits creativity.
