Active learning takes the learner from passive learning to an active enviroment where the student can apply problem solving and relate the course content to real life situations and application.
I learned that active learning shifts students from passive recipients of information to engaged participants in their own learning. It promotes deeper understanding through activities like discussions, problem-solving, and reflection. I plan to apply this by integrating more interactive elements into my online course, like polls, collaborative tasks, and breakout discussions, to keep students engaged and encourage critical thinking.
Active leaning has been gaining in use in classrooms since the 1990's as it helps students take an active role in their learning. Instructors have to reevaluate their role as a provider of knowledge in one direction to a guide that helps students take responsibility for their own understanding of course content.
Active learning is an educational approach where students are actively involved in the learning process, rather than passively receiving information. It encourages participation through activities like discussions, problem-solving, group work, reflections, and hands-on tasks.
The importance of active learning lies in how it improves understanding, critical thinking, and long-term retention of knowledge. It helps students apply what they learn in real-world situations, stay engaged with the material, and take responsibility for their own learning. In both in-person and online environments, active learning promotes deeper learning and creates a more student-centered experience.
Active learning is important for online education, or any type of education at all. It's crucial to know that the student can and must be engaged in the learning process and it is his responsability to learn, not the teachers.
Also, we can rely on instructional designers to make our content more atractive and functional.
Active learning is about envolving students in their own learning path and keep them engaged throughout their learning process within different activities.
Its very important have a active education for both students and teachers.
Active learning in centered on the students and the instructors/facilitators are in charge of giving the students the space and tools to develop themselves on critical thinking about the subject of discussion.
Online learning gives tools and support to attend all students, and involved them in the construction knowledge.
I plan to incorporate in online teaching a variety of strategies to engage the students. Hopefully, students will not fall asleep during my online teaching
Aprendí que hay varios tipos de Aprendizaje, el que me intereso mas fue el de aprendizaje basado en problemas . creo que es uno de los que voy a incluir en mis clases.
What I have learned from this module is that facilitating active learning into the curriculum can increase a students learning ad keep them engaged throughout the course of their learning. It also can increase retention and help with understanding . I intend on applying some active learning techniques to the course material such as acting out in class (F2F) or online a case study to capture the students perspective and get a better understanding of how the information is being retained by the student.
Active learning is a teaching approach that engages students directly in the learning process through activities like discussions, problem solving and collaborative tasks, encouraging deeper understanding and retention of content.
Active learning moves the student away from passive learning to participating in gaining knowledge.
Because part of the course is an online forum, you need to make sure that you are effectively communicating with the students to make sure everyone is given the opportunity to reach you if they have any questions or concerns, and to also make sure that they have the proper resources they need to succeed.
This module highlighted that active learning is a research-backed approach that significantly improves comprehension, retention, and student engagement. It shifts the focus from passive content delivery to dynamic, student-centered learning.
I intended to apply these insights by integrating more case-based discussions, peer collaboration, and real-world problem solving into my instruction. I'll also utilize learner feedback and analytics to continuously refine strategies, ensuring that each activity not only engages but also deepens understanding.
Active learning in an online environment transitions the instructor to a facilitator or coach role that guides learning and student growth.
As a teacher who likes lecturing, I've had to adjust my style and point of view to incorporate active learning in my classes. It's a more complex but more rewarding approach to teaching.
The responsibilities of an online instructor extend far beyond delivering content—they require intentional efforts to create an engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. From managing virtual discussions to providing timely feedback, I have learned that engagement begins with clear communication, consistent presence, and the use of interactive tools that promote active learning. Building trust and encouraging participation through meaningful dialogue, personalized outreach, and varied instructional methods are essential to keeping students motivated and connected in an online setting.
Moving forward, I intend to apply these principles by incorporating strategies that foster community and collaboration, such as discussion forums, group projects, and regular check-ins. I will also use multimedia content and real-world applications to make lessons more relatable and dynamic. Most importantly, I will prioritize student-centered practices by being responsive, adaptable, and empathetic to individual needs—ensuring that each student feels seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
