It is important for an instructor to project their authority and credibility in distance learning just as it is inside a traditional classroom setting. While I have always begun class with an introductory video of myself, I usually choose a discussion thread for students. Now I am considering a video thread for students who can respond in writing to one another or by video.
I would make myself available for questions, present the material in a confident manner, and ensure all material is accurate
I think it makes a big impact to make personal contact with each student, in a non-threatening way, at the beginning of the course. Maybe send a personalized email or welcome message.
