Course Delivery | Origin: EL102

This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Online Teaching Techniques --> Course Delivery

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

This learning module reminded me that even though an instructor may have a long history in teaching, they must familiarize themselves with the hardware and software being used to give instruction and the requirements of the college. Additionally, being familiar with how to navigate through the platform used to best assist students is of utmost importance. If one cannot navigate the platform, it hinders the ability to assist students.

From this learning module I was reminded how important is to be familiar with your course and your school's CMS. It is imperative that you orient your students to the CMS and it's important to familiarize them with the structure and requirements of the course. If this is not done then you will most likely have a higher rate of confused student messages and attrition.

I learned the importance of fully understanding both the course content and the delivery format so students can easily navigate the course, access materials, and meet expectations. I plan to apply this by clearly organizing content, communicating deadlines and assessments upfront, and using the course platform consistently to support student engagement and success.

I have learned how to effectively communicate using the CMS system and various things available to me.

I learned ways that students can become frustrated when learning online and ways to prevent that. One way will be to partner with the IT help desk if I have any questions and use them as a resource with technology issues.

I will learn the tools that I will need to effectively teach an online course. Also be able to aid students in working the learning platform.

I've learned how to clearly and effectively manage the CMS and what ways to retain students' attention, which is crucial in their educational development.

It was a detailed overview of what a quality online course contains and how to effectively engage students when interacting in a digital setting.

It was a good review of a different approach to teaching and what that would mean as an online instructor.

Effective online teaching begins with becoming fully familiar with the delivery platform, understanding its tools, communication features, and how students will navigate the course. Using a Course Management System (CMS) helps me build a clear, accessible syllabus and organize materials in multiple formats, such as modules, weekly folders, video lessons, and interactive activities. By offering content in different ways, students can engage at their own pace while still feeling supported and guided. A well‑structured online environment not only keeps students on track but also allows the course to run smoothly, making learning more meaningful and manageable for everyone.

Spend time on the learning platform and understand how to properly use prior to the beginning of your course.

I learned that effective online teaching requires strong fluency with the learning management system, from managing rosters and discussions to monitoring student activity and performance.

I learned about different teaching styles and how to help students be more engaged in learning. Depending on how information is being presented, will determine how well the students will learn the material.

I have learned about different forms of communication, such as in-person conversations, phone calls, and written correspondence, and how each one is important in sharing information clearly. As an Admissions Representative, I will use these communication skills to answer questions, explain the admissions process, and help prospective students feel comfortable and supported throughout their experience.

Familiarize myself with different platforms that I will be using throughout my career as an instructor

I learned to familiarize myself with all course material and the CMS so that I can answer questions my learner may have about either.

I learned that each teacher is going to have a different style while teaching and that it is ok to refamiliarize myself with certain topics before I teach them.

I need to familiarize myself with all the platforms so that I know how to navigate them and answer students' questions. Also getting to know my students so that I can adapt to different learning styles.

I have learned and refamiliarized myself with the elements of the LMS and will ensure I am comfortable enough with all components to be able to effectively translate them to students. I will carefully consider the online learner's needs when structuring my courses (IT frustrations, computer literacy, etc.).
