Student Learning Assessment | Origin: ED103

This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

Student Learning and Assessment--> Student Learning Assessment

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

How to assess how effective the instruction has been. Where improvements need to be made. What worked. What didn't.

From this module, I learned how important it is to connect theoretical concepts with real-world application, which strongly relates to the value of internships. Internships provide students with hands-on experience where they can apply classroom knowledge in practical settings, helping them better understand expectations and develop workplace skills. I intend to apply this by incorporating more real-world examples and encouraging students to seek internship opportunities, so they can bridge the gap between learning and professional practice.

giving students regular assessments so you can see what areas they need to improve in.

guiding the student to the right resources for better learning and understanding of the curriculum.

I learned about various methods of assessing students in different areas and some problems and general recommendations for each. Some of the content was familiar to me, such as Bloom's taxonomy.

This module has taught me to use an assessment that actually measures the objective (validity). Also using reliable methods give consistent results.

I learned about the different types of assessments and how to use them.

One of the main things I learned from this module is that assessment is an ongoing process, not just a final grade. Formative assessments help guide instruction, while summative assessments measure what students have learned.

I also learned the importance of aligning assessments with clear objectives and using a variety of methods beyond tests, such as projects and group work, to better measure real world skills.

Moving forward, I plan to use more diverse assessments and focus on tracking student progress while building skills like communication and problem solving.

Assessing writting is important

I learned that every student learns differently and paying attention to their learning style to best help them understand the subject we are teaching.

having open ended questions with them helps them to participate an engage more

Pay attention to students learning styles and moods. Formulate activities and learning strategies to fit specific learning styles of students

How to identify when to utilize passive vs active listening to better the student experience. Utilizing quick pop quizzes to gauge comprehension and make changes to the course based on results.

being able to make sure you are helpijg the student and teaching them so they understand the material

How to assess what the students have learned and what they may have questions about.

How to properly use communication skills. Also to use formative and summative assessments.

Important student learning assessments I can use in class include formative strategies such as exit tickets, think-pair-share discussions, quick quizzes, and case-based questioning to check for understanding in real time. These assessments allow me to identify misconceptions early, adjust my instruction immediately, and support students before moving on to more complex material.

Good communication skills are required in every field of career goals. Knowing your students will help to encourage good communication.

Student learning assessment is really about checking whether students actually understand the material, not just whether they can repeat it. Quick checks, like short questions, hands‑on demos, or mini‑reviews, make sure students are keeping up and to adjust my teaching when they’re not.

I learned that assessments don't have to be time consuming, a short quiz can be a good check-in to let you know how well, or not, the students understand what you have been teaching. It is important to adjust your teaching as needed, if assessments show lower comprehension. Also that practicum supervisors are in a great position to observe skills in action, and give feedback to both the students and the instructor as to what is going well and what improvements may be needed. As a supervisor, I plan to continue to give actionable feedback to students in the clinic, as well as the the relevant instructors if needed. As a TA, I plan to think of questions that may be useful for the teacher to add to a short quiz.
