To improve retention rates, schools should consistently focus on effective admissions processes, well planned and engaging orientations, strong mentoring, student involvement, memorable graduation ceremonies, and effective job placement support.

Job placement can involve students throughout their entire program, starting as early as Admissions. Introducing career preparation early can help students stay motivated because they can see how their education connects to their future career. Employment skills can be practiced throughout the program, giving students opportunities to build confidence, prepare for interviews, create resumes, and understand what to expect when entering the field.

This can also support retention by helping students feel more confident in their career choice and giving them a clear goal to work toward. When students understand the opportunities available to them and feel prepared for what comes after graduation, they may be more motivated to stay engaged and complete their program.
