From this module, I gained a clearer understanding of how Title IX, VAWA, and the Clery Act intersect to create a safer campus environment. Specifically, learning the distinct differences between the acts was helpful—recognizing that while Title IX focuses on gender-based discrimination and harassment, VAWA specifically addresses violence (like domestic/dating violence and stalking), and the Clery Act centers on transparency and crime reporting.
I intend to apply this by ensuring I am fully up to date on our school's specific reporting protocols. I want to make sure everyone knows exactly who our Title IX Coordinator is and what my responsibilities are as a mandatory reporter/responsible employee. My goal is to help foster a culture where students feel safe coming forward because they know their rights will be respected and the institution will handle reports transparently.
