Activity

From this module, I gained a clearer understanding of how Title IX, VAWA, and the Clery Act intersect to create a safer campus environment. Specifically, learning the distinct differences between the acts was helpful—recognizing that while Title IX focuses on gender-based discrimination and harassment, VAWA specifically addresses violence (like domestic/dating violence and stalking), and the Clery Act centers on transparency and crime reporting.

I intend to apply this by ensuring I am fully up to date on our school's specific reporting protocols. I want to make sure everyone knows exactly who our Title IX Coordinator is and what my responsibilities… >>>

What I’ve Learned from the Prevention and Education Module
This module highlighted the critical role that prevention and education play in addressing sex-based harassment and sexual violence on campus. Here are the key takeaways:

Proactive Prevention: Prevention efforts must go beyond just responding to incidents. They should include continuous education on consent, bystander intervention, and the dynamics of sexual violence. By building awareness and understanding, institutions can help prevent incidents from happening in the first place.
Bystander Intervention: Training students, faculty, and staff to recognize potentially harmful situations and empowering them to step in safely is a crucial component of… >>>

This module has reinforced the significance of a thoughtful, empathetic approach to investigations and the need for institutions to remain vigilant and responsive in their policies regarding sexual harassment and violence. I'm eager to apply this knowledge to foster a safer and more supportive environment on campus.

A well-defined reporting and response framework is essential for ensuring that institutions effectively address allegations of sex-based discrimination and violence. By creating clear procedures, providing training, and offering support, institutions can foster a safer and more equitable educational environment.

What I've Learned
From this module, I gained a deeper understanding of how Title IV governs federal student aid and how it impacts educational institutions' responsibilities. I also learned how VAWA contributes to creating safer environments by enforcing institutional policies against gender-based violence and promoting awareness.

Application
Title IV: I will apply this knowledge by ensuring that educational institutions adhere to Title IV regulations, helping students navigate financial aid processes, and understanding the consequences of non-compliance. Whether advising students or working within a higher education institution, I will prioritize transparency and accuracy in dealing with federal financial aid.
