This module helped me better understand the importance of student engagement and the role instructors play in creating meaningful connections with learners. One of the biggest takeaways for me was that engagement is not something that can be assumed; it must be intentionally fostered through observation, communication, and thoughtful course design. I also learned that while it is impossible to meet every individual need perfectly, instructors can create flexible learning experiences that support a wide range of learners.
As an online instructor, I intend to apply these concepts by making a conscious effort to connect with students early and often. I plan to continue monitoring participation, reaching out to struggling students, and creating opportunities for meaningful interaction throughout the course. Building relationships with students and helping them feel seen and supported can have a significant impact on motivation, engagement, and overall success. This module reinforced the idea that effective teaching is not only about delivering content but also about understanding and supporting the learners behind the screens.
