For my inattentive students, I walk towards them in a class setting. If the behavior is repeated the next day or within the same class period, I have a private conversation with the student. Usually, the answer is they are bored. So, the first thing I do is some self-reflection to see if I need to change my delivery method or make the content clearer for understanding.

I like the idea of making a "talkative student" an observer. I am going to try this method in my class.
