Goal setting is one of the most important activities students can fully participate in. Setting meaningful goals gives students purpose, direction, and motivation to achieve their objectives in what they are striving to learn in their respective programs.
Setting goals, and eventually achieving them, helps motivate students, and gives them inspiration to do and achieve more in their lives personally and professionally. We keep goals included with our teaching, as we strive to inspire our students to obtain their FAA remote pilot certificates, and in turn we hope to be the source for them to master the material and be well on their way to commercially flying drones. Our strategies incorporate goals and goal-based activities, and we emphasize the importance of reaching goals, making sure said goals have meaning for the students themselves
learned that reflection on progress can give growth ,connectivity to the learning progress
I love this strategy: Have them write their goals for the day on a note card. Ask them to rate how likely they are to achieve the goal (on a scale of 1 to 5) and what help they need to achieve it. As students begin to work, quickly review the notecards and target your support accordingly.
It's important to set meaningful goals because I feel that's what keeps the drive and motivation alive for students. If a student has a goal for their future and works hard for it. After seeing that effort, it make myself as a teacher do everything in my power to help assist and make sure that goal has the best chance of happening.
Comment on Randice Nelson's post: Total agreement! How do you teach them to do that in your course? Please share your approaches, we would love to share your ideas with the community!
It is important for students to be able to have control over their own learning goals.
