Positive Impact

At times providing a positive model and coaching a student toward improving results may overlap an "enabling" mentality. Consistency of delivery throughout a curriculum should build trust and fairness into the structure. Do you believe it is necessary at times to address patterns in behavior? What is the best method if doing so?

Peter,

It is possible to be nurturing and caring while setting high expectations. If a faculty member notices a behavior that seems to be taking a student away from his or her goals or is interfering with the learning process for others, that faculty member has an obligation to interact wit hthe student to respectfully point out the issues and get it solved.

Jeffrey Schillinger

Yes its necessary you can do this by letting the student know that you have noticed he/she tends to lax in the discipline department and give them some suggestion in the form of an action plan.

I do believe that consistency in all aspects of life is so important. So many students as well as employees have negative things happening in their lives. We all need to help and support each other. We can all learn from each other.
