Next Steps and Follow-Up | Origin: AC102

This is a general discussion forum for the following learning topic:

The Admissions Presentation – Start to Finish --> Next Steps and Follow-Up

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

The checklist is a great way to be organized, but it allows for the student to see how organize the admission process is and they will know the first to the last steps.

From this module, I learned the importance of presenting information clearly and connecting it to student needs. I intend to apply these strategies by improving how I guide prospective students, ensuring transparency, and supporting them in making confident enrollment decisions.

Short response

I learned that closing isn't a separate high-pressure "sales" step — it's a natural summary of everything already covered, followed by a clear, encouraging push toward the next action with a specific target date. I also learned how critical timely follow-up is, especially within the first 24-48 hours when cognitive dissonance can set in, and that referrals are one of the most valuable but underused lead sources simply because people don't ask.

Going forward, I plan to apply this by always summarizing the conversation before moving to next steps, setting a firm completion date rather than leaving things open-ended, building in early check-ins to reinforce a student's decision before doubt creeps in, and making it a habit to ask for referrals rather than assuming they'll come on their own.

Learnt more about how important a referral is from a prospect and how to get a referral, also carefully engaging the student on the admission process and following up.

This module reinforced the importance of clear next steps, consistent follow-up, and ongoing support. I plan to apply these ideas by setting clear deadlines, maintaining regular communication, and helping students overcome obstacles as they move through the enrollment process.

I think an enrollment checklist would be awesome to give to students, so they are clear on what their next steps are.

Lots of great information in this section.   A solid recap of what you've learned about the student and what they're looking for in a school.  Then encouragement to enroll, and have them start the process while they're still with you in case they have any questions is a great suggestion.   Focus on the next steps, which having an Admissions checklist is helpful to keep students on task and then ask for referrals.  I loved the suggestion as well of encouraging the prospective student to bring a friend or a family with them, that can help alleviate any anxiety or fear and could also lead to a second student if it was a friend they brought.

An enrollment checklist will help students stay organized and clearly understand each step of the process. It reduces confusion, ensures they don’t miss important requirements, and helps them move through enrollment with more confidence and clarity.

I think that next steps and follow-Up means making sure students know what to do after the meeting and staying in touch with them. Next steps should be clear and simple so students aren’t confused. Follow-up helps answer questions and keeps students moving forward. It helps guide and support students through the process.

I think an enrollment checklist will be beneficial to my students to help them keep track of their progress to get approval for the grant we work with (WIOA)
