Technology impact to education has come a long way. I remember when students were running around trying to find fax machines. Now there are programs that can take pictures of your paperwork and send it over as a PDF, and electronic signatures, which has made the task easier to complete. Not to mention, taking classes anywhere in the world with technology.

Technology has paved the way for many opportunities. This s another reason it is very important to make sure record keeping is up to date and accurate. 

I know this was section of the course was indeed a refresher; I treat students' information as if it were my own. I wouldn't want no one reviewing my information without my consent. I believe it says a lot about the care and consideration we take when it comes our students and their information. 

FERPA, is indeed important to make sure records are maintained properly, even when it comes to internal sharing information, still needs to have a signature from the student. I do not remember seeing that parents are given access if a student is under 21 and has an issue with alcohol, learned something new. 

FERPA, is always a great refresher to have. I could not remember that institutions have 45 days to comply with access to educational records. I cannot remember if I read in the past that complaints could be file. 

It is always a great review of the information.

This section was a reminder, but what took me back under "Bringing Questioning and Listening Together" bridging the gap between what is being said and not heard, and asking open-ended questions. 

Taking notes is important, even if you do shorthand notes, makes sure to go back afterwards to write out to meaning so you are not leaving anything out. 

I believe you can never review information on active listening enough. Sometimes doing repetitious work, you may miss something, so having a refresher or even seeing it different helps. 

This section is a reminder to keep your cup or glass half full and not generalize each situation to be cemented in stone wither on the phone or in person when it comes to dealing with individuals.

Each person comes with their own truths and experiences. This section is a reminder, there is room daily for improvement when it comes to listening, each story is a lesson itself. 

I believe "Empathic Listening" is a valuable asset for dealing with anyone you are guiding to help with their next future educational goals. 

The section was very useful. Unskilled and Skilled questions gave a better understanding of by better techniques to grasp, on how to reframe questions to help them come across safer and now get caught in traps to avoid. I also like how the "Past, Present, and Future Sequencing", I use this in the form of doing a vision board. I like the vision board because it gives something tangible to see.

I always had an issue with trying to really get a better grasp of open and closed ended questions. Until my DOA gave myself and the team more insight on a great open-ended question, I have applied in my recent conversation this question. I have added this question to emails also and received great feedback response. This was a great section to polish or remember, it is okay to change what may not work to enhance your skill and mindset. 

Take away from this portion of the "The Relationship Cycle & Relationship Selling" reinforce being authentic and an active lister while speaking. Listening for what is not being said, by building a connection in trust. by doing this you are also listening for the readiness of the student and moving forward. This is a good reminder to listen and ask the student to give a vivid imagination of what it would look like moving forward. By using the 6-step relational sales process will help polishing up skills, and become a better guidance advisor in the long run. 

The checklist is a great way to be organized, but it allows for the student to see how organize the admission process is and they will know the first to the last steps.
