More information isn’t always a good thing. Gather information so that you can tailor your presentation and talking points on tour. If you talk too much, you may lose them or bore them. We use student tour guides mostly, which changes the flow and perspective. I will emphasize the need to ask questions and customize.
I learned how to apply key concepts from this module to real‑world scenarios. Moving forward, I intend to use these insights to strengthen my communication with prospective students and ensure clear guidance throughout the admissions process.
I learned to find the prospect's WIIFM (what's in it for them) before giving information, instead of just reciting everything about the program. Listening — really listening, not just waiting to talk — is how you uncover that.
I'll apply it by asking more open-ended questions upfront and tailoring what I share to their actual motivation, rather than giving the same info to everyone.
it's important to understand the prospect during a tour and giving them the opportunity to express their concerns about starting the program.
This module taught me the importance of understanding each student’s goals, motivations, and potential obstacles before presenting information. I plan to apply these concepts by asking better questions, listening carefully, and tailoring my presentations so students can clearly see how the program supports their personal and professional goals.
I have learned that during the admissions session it is more important to focus on understanding each potential student’s needs and identifying any roadblocks they may be facing.
It is so important to really learn about the prospective student by gathering information and then giving information based on what you have learned about them. They don't need all the information all at once as it could be too overwhelming.
Checking in with the student regularly to make sure you haven't "lost them" is necessary. I love the question "From what you've learned so far, do you see anything preventing you from starting on _______date"
I learned that the tour and information should be fully centered on the prospect, not just what I think is important. By asking the right questions first, I can better understand their needs and highlight only what is most relevant to them.
I plan to apply this by making my tours more personalized, focusing on their goals, and guiding the conversation in a way that keeps them engaged and connected to the program.
I learned that Gather and Give means first learning about the student, then sharing information that fits their needs.
Instead of giving all details right away, I should ask questions and listen first.
Then I can share only the information that is most helpful to them.
This makes the conversation more focused, simple, and student-centered.
I have learned more about the importance of tailoring the tour to the prospects hot buttons
