Telephone Technique

It is important for the Admissions Rep to create a bond with prospective student. Usually accomplished through small talk.

This is true. Once you create a bond with the prospective student, the rest of the call typically goes a lot smoother.

I think that it is important to create that bond, because that is initially what makes the student want to come in. You usually do this by finding common ground between you and that student.

Creating a non threatening phone call where you ask about them, and for them to give you the info on their own initiative, gives them the feeling of being heard. It is then more likely that they will agree to a face to face meeting.

Hello, Jermaine! Yes...finding a mutual interest is an important step in building rapport. Thank you for your post!
