How do you approach the situation that occurs when students compare you to other instructors: "Mr. Soandso never had us do this...", especially if that instructor has an excellent reptutation with a lot of students?

Clint,
I let the students know that every instructor's style is different. Hence, I cannot be like Mr. Soandso. With that kind of response, I do not challenge the other instructor's approach and at the same time, I do not back down on my approach just because students want me to do so.

Hi Dr. Felicia,
That's right stand your ground. It is your classroom, and you conduct it accordingly.
