Students who Bully other students

The scenarios addressed angry and insecure quiret students, but it did not directly address Students who Bully other students by intimidating them into handing over homework assignments, etc. In larger classrooms some of the quieter students wil not tell on a bully and the quieter student often sithdraws. Later onw e find out that a particular student was unkind. Question: How di instructors identify the bullies so they can be supressed and all can succeed?

Hi Margaret,
You really do not know if a student is bullying unless you are informed. I would handle a bullying just like I would handle a disciplinarian problem. Bullying is not very big at this level.

I do believe you can avert bullying behavior if you have a firm grasp of the class dynamic in your classroom. When you see any kind of interaction where one student seems uncomfortable or offended, it is an opportunity to discuss the interaction instead of sweeping it under the rug.
