This is a very important tool that can help calm the nerves of student's. This can also help answer questions before they ask them.

The syllabus is the key to any class. It it multipurpose, and as you have stated, it answers numerous questions. I can not imagine not having a syllabus on the first day.

What if your school doesn't have hard copies of the syllabus to hand out, but its up to the students to go online and print their own syllabus?
I use a sylabus that lays out my whole phase day by day and any requirements for the course when i hand it out to the class i go over each thing they have and how the phase will go it seems to set their mind at ease right off

Students are tense when it comes to the unexpected. Once students know what the requirements are they tend to be a lot more at ease. Students need to know on Day 1 what is expected of them.
