I think about how often the people who absorb the consequences of a project are absent from the decisions that shape it.

In a school district, a renovated lab can be declared complete while the teacher who inherits it has no plan for maintaining its equipment. A curriculum can be approved while the next instructor is left to reconcile its assumptions with the reality of the classroom.

From the perspective of the people delivering the project, the work is finished. For the people inheriting it, the real test has just begun.

This course has changed how I think about accountability… >>>

I have learned about emotional intelligence. Being able to do a self-assessment can help implement self-control and be more sensitive to the needs of others on team.

Effective meeting management requires clear planning, defined agendas, time management, and active participation to ensure productive outcomes. I intend to apply these strategies by organizing focused meetings, encouraging collaboration, and following up with actionable items to improve team communication and accountability.

I learned that customer satisfaction and long-term success depend on understanding customer needs, building strong relationships, and supporting employees. I plan to apply these lessons by improving communication, using data to make better decisions, and working with my team to enhance the student experience and support long-term success.

Leading others starts with being a positive role model to those around you. Motivation and the words you choose make all the difference.

This is important topic for people managers but probably requires some training by experts!

Immediate communication, action, and strategic planning is crucial in crisis management.

Performance measurement is a lot more complicated than I gave it credit for.

I learned that emotional intelligence is an important part of effectively leading and motivating others. I can demonstrate emotional intelligence by managing my emotions, actively listening, and understanding how others may feel in different situations. I plan to apply this by communicating with empathy, remaining calm during challenges, and building positive relationships with my team.

I can demonstrate greater empathy and curiosity by being more intentional about checking in with my team beyond the work itself. Before immediately focusing on a missed deadline, challenge, or performance concern, I can ask questions, listen for context, and seek to understand what may be contributing to the situation
