What has stood out to me is using outside the box elements to get a point across.  One was the "do you want to be a truck driver or a professional truck driver.  The other was the instructor dropping the hammer on his steel toe shoe to get the point across to the student to wear the appropriate shoes.

Include methods of teaching topics that are unique and memorable. Not giving up on a student when all seems lost by reaching out to provide support. Find out what makes a student interested in a topic that otherwise they are not interested in. Providing the opportunity to learn the material in a variety of ways.

Knowing how to read the room and see when a student is struggling even though they may not say so.  I like the Cher quote: "If you aren't ready or willing to look foolish, then you aren't ready for the possibility of being great". My paraphrase of course.

I liked the strategy of throwing the piece of paper in the trash.

The benefits of reading a room are bountiful.  Really observe how students are reacting to instruction and test grades.

Encouragement and empathy can go a long way in supporting a student with issues they may be experiencing.

There is no one way to teach a topic.

Knowing that I am making a difference in the student's knowledge goes a long way in remembering that students are aware of the positive impact an instructor can have.

Walk around the class.  I like the example of the air conditioning unit taken apart and spread throughout the entire space.

Paying attention to how students are reacting to instruction. Changing it when appropriate can be effective.

Having a passion for the topic can help to motivate students and keep interest.

Include all students in a classroom setting by utilizing all of the available space. Walk around the room and don't stay in one place.
Start the class precisely on time.
Encourage students by grading assignments on time.

Learn students names as soon as possible.

Be patient, use policy.

Knowing how to reach your students and have them to give feedback on what you've talked about is a way to gauge if they are listening to you or not.
