DO NOT CALL

I think it is important to get in the habit of checking prospective student, or inquiry, phone numbers against the DO NOT CALL registry. It is easy to overlook this at times when we are calling through a database of inquiries, but it is important to respect the wishes of the prospective student. By violating this policy, not only can there be formal consequences for the institution, but there can also be consequences for the institution's reputation. However, I do have a question about this policy. If a student requests information from our institution, but their number is on the DNC registry, what are the guidelines for following up with this student? Ryan

Staying up-to-date

In any industry, whether it is Admissions, Medicine or Math, an employee needs to stay updated on any changes that occur not only on the school-level, but also within the state and nationwide. This is the only way representatives can assure they deliver the best customer service.

Where Sales and Admission differs

A sale is a one-time transaction, but admissions is just one step of many until the student obtains his or her degree, graduates and begins a new career he/she can feel proud and satisfied with. Until the graduation is achieved the education experience will be difficult and challenging. But as since admissions accompanies them through this process, we can help them overcome these obstacles.

Admission Requirements and Enrollment

When a student enrolls at an institution, he or she starts an exciting new part of their life. As Admissions Representative we take them by the hand and facilitate this process for them. Explaing all the admission requirements and enrollment procedures is just one of the many aspects that we should master.

student objections

what is the most effective way to deal with the student objections?

Commission Rules and Regulations

As part of the Admissions Department, it is essential to follow the rules and regulations established by both the overviewing commission as well as the individual schools. However I believe there are not only these written rules, but also unwritten integrity-related rules that we need to follow when it comes to our students. Each party deserves equal fairness.

introduction

Accreditation - Accrediting Agency Accrediting agencies provide volunteer membership for institutions and act as "gatekeepers" for federal funding program participation if they are approved and recognized by the US Department of Education. Accrediting agencies are classified generally as national, regional, or programmatic depending on their charter, approval, and scope. Advertising Any form of public notice, however disseminated or utilized, offering training or education to the public or recruiting students to enroll in an institution or college program. The term includes publications and promotional items which may be seen or encountered by prospective students, including catalogs and other institutional publications which contain institutional policies or disclosures; mailing pieces, such as bulletins, brochures, or flyers; classified advertisements; news releases; posters; electronic notices provided through Internet, radio, or television; or any other form of public notice resulting from the institution's recruiting and promotional efforts.

Transfer Credit

It is important to communicate the policies regarding transfer of credit into your institution. It is also helpful to be up-to-date on all articulation agreements your institution has with other institutions. In admissions, I am often asked about whether our credits will transfer to other institutions. While the honest and accurate answer may not be the one students want to hear (at least, it is not as simple as they may like), it is important to communicate. Transfer credit and the policies relating to transferability of credit are always determined by the receiving institution. Students may suggest that they were told by their advisor (at the institution that they are transferring from) that their credits would transfer. This can be a challenging conversation especially if some of the credits do not transfer. We need to be aware that information they received at their previous institution may not have been accurate but we need to be understanding of how they feel when they hear the news that some of their credits will not transfer. Being empathetic is important but also having a thoughtful and sincere conversation about the rules regarding transferability of credit can be helpful.

Programs

It is extremely important for admissions staff to always be in the "know" when it comes to current program offerings, and what can be equally as important for recruitment, potential future offerings. I have worked for institutions that have been on both sides of the continuum when it came to keeping admissions informed. I have worked for institutions where I was in the loop on program changes or offerings before approval was sought by the CIE. I have also worked for institutions where departments played everything close to the vest, and did not let admissions know what was happening programmatically until it had already happened. So a new program was being offered by a department, yet admissions did not know (seems like a funny way to recruit...?). It is important for admissions representatives to be proactive and not wait to hear what is happening, but we should approach departments to learn what is happening.
