How to manage

Delivering Course Content

I like to use powerpoints and visual. I also like to do hands-on demonstrations to deliver the course content.

Meeting the Class for the first time

I always like to introduce myself and let everyone, introduce theirselves, so they can get to know one another.I like to give them the course outline and the syllabus, so they can no what to expect, when they come to class.

Planning and Preparation

I always try to come in thirty minutes early, so I will have plenty of time to be prep and ready for class.

Instructional Style

I like to engage the students in the Instructional Style of teaching and have them get into groups, when I review for a test. Students seems to like this way of teaching because they are involved in the learning process.

2-way street

The discussion in my classroom goes both ways. I demonstrate a method (teaching math), then work some examples. The example is an interactive session, I ask "What do I do next?" I state my expectations of them, "If you do not ask any questions, I will assume you understand the material." I begin every class with asking for questions. The testing process is frequent, providing feedback to them on their learning and to me on my teaching.

tests

How would I best construct a test for students who have a general difficulty with tests.

progress reports

what is the best way to give student progress if they aren't doing well in class?

stumper

How can I handle a student who is constantly trying to "stump" the teacher?

auditory vs visual

How can I combine teaching strategies to best help all of my students learn the material?

how to incoporate all teaching methods?

How do I incorporate all of the different teaching methods to make sure all of my students will be successful in my class?

what to do?

How do I handle a know it all student on the first day?

syllabus

Can I modify a syllabus midway into the class if I see that I need to make an adjustment to my class to make sure all of the course information can be covered?

i don't know the answer

As a new instructor, I am afraid of being asked a question to which I don't know the answer. How can I handle a situation where this happens?

Tutoring

I found on on one sessions with these students can help us work together on their success. in a tutoring session there is less worry of slowing the class down or feeling outcast for what they may think is a "dumb question". I can get to know their learning style better from the personal interactions.

Language barriers

I have one on one conversations with my english as a second language students so they know they can ask the meaning of a word even during a test which helps calm the fear of not understanding a concept because of language barriers.

Group Projects

I feel group project help build "soft skills" that are hard to teach. Grouping students helps build professionalism through exercise rather than lecture.

Review packets

I like to give a review of each chapter to help students study around excess information.
