The discussion in my classroom goes both ways. I demonstrate a method (teaching math), then work some examples. The example is an interactive session, I ask "What do I do next?"
I state my expectations of them, "If you do not ask any questions, I will assume you understand the material." I begin every class with asking for questions. The testing process is frequent, providing feedback to them on their learning and to me on my teaching.
