Knowing the type of instructor you are is helpful in preparing istructional materials for your students

What is the goal of educating students

I want my students to be successful in the field that they choose,so I try to help them by sharing experiences, information, knowledge,in a way that is fun, interesting, and that helps them to use their imagination,so that they are truly excited about what it is they have learned and how they can put it into action.

Avoiding unprepared students should start with admissions?

Sometimes we are given a bad crop of students by our colleges admissions team. A good way to avoid is I have found is frequent communication with the admissions team so they understand the rigors and expectations of the curriculum and convey this to their prospects.

Prepackaged power points.

What do you guys do when you receive pre-packaged power points presentations. I generally just get familiar with them and skip to the parts I can use, telling the students to use the rest as a resource. What do you guys do?

make up

I feel that sometimes make up test arent helpful if that student has missed multiple days .

Learnnin plans

I try ot take multiple approaches at each task to ensure that everyone developes the skillls necessary to do the job.

Power points

Power points are ver informative and I use them mostly for visual aids as far a showing my students parts and components.

field trips

Going on field trips has greatly helped with motivating and retention!

Integration of technology

In the field of cosmetology traditionally the course is taught through application and theory. However, with the surge of social media many trends and cutting edge techniques are being featured in video clips that are up-loaded in-line. Being able to use avenues such as these brings another dimension to the classroom, improving the dynamic of both teaching and learning.

Objectives

I thought the list of questions posed during the "writing objectives" section are a great asset during those time the subject matter is so broad.

Documenting

I've always kept my lesson plans in a folder for easy access. However, it never occurred to me to back them up in case of fire or any other tragedy. This is a tip I will employ in future semesters.

Getting to know your audience

I can appreciate the idea of employing the use of "ice breakers" in the classroom. I've found that employing this strategy to ascertain the climate of the classroom works well. Even in cases where you may have former students taking another class with you.

Deducting points

I found that deducting 10 points from an exam is useful when there is a student with attendance issues.

pre test

There are ways to test your students without their knowledge during lecture. Incorporate questions into lecture.

guest speaker

Using a guest speaker can either discourage or motivate a student.

writing objectives

To me this seems to be the hardest component to creating lesion plans. In writing solid objectives I have the habit of attempting to include way too many objectives into a single objective. Objectives should remain clear, concise and understandable. Should you need to explain the objective to your students after they have read them, then it is too complex and needs simplification. having multiple learning objectives is better than having a short list.

Student utilization

As adult learners it is often difficult to get them involved with the learning outcomes. A tool that I utilize is the establishment of a student daily activity wherein the students are asked a simple question or asked to provide a statement about the upcoming learning session. For an example; Bill, tomorrow please be prepared to open our class with a quote regarding the learning outcome listed as number 1. At the start of the next session, Bill is then expected to interact with the learning presentation providing such requested data. In case Bill is too shy or absent, you as the instructor should have a back-up plan to cover potential dead class time due to Bill's absence. For me this involves the student in the learning outcomes and helps to solidify the course learning outcomes. I take this even further by asking some of the more advanced students to project this out towards the later portions of the course and challenge them to in turn guide the direction of the course presentation content.
