Keeping current on technology

I feel being current on tech is essential for the current generation. I have many reasons, but my main reason is to show through example keeping current is a personal choice, and they should be willing to learn new technology. I really like to talk about and push this subject. I explain in the world new technologies usually make the job easier, but keeps them as a worker relevant to their career choice.

Becoming an Instructional Delivery Expert

What are top 3 objectives to becoming an IDE

Grading Exams Promptly

Grading exams promptly makes good sense as any remedial or rehabilitative work which needs to be done to assist students can be known based on the student performance. It also provides a platform for the student to see how well they are doing and how much they have absorbed and which area needs improvement

Anticipating Challenges

As an Instructor of science courses having a plan B is so important as students who develop phobia to science is always challenging. Diving the class and using a pretest is always a great idea. I am open to any other suggestions.

SENSES IN LEARNING

I found the information on this are to be very informative. It certainly has reinforced my need as an instructor to use a multi-sensory approach during my sessions with my students. I will treasure the quote "Eliminate the tedium and Vary the medium"

Time Mangement

According to my opinion Time managment is very important to keep student an engaged.

You Tube as Teaching Tool

Have a computer connected to the internet for quick reference of short videos on youtube.com or lynda.com always seem to re-energize a class. Looking at websites that are closely related to the industry also gives student great ideas on what to search and look for to better understand the profession being taught.

Working in Classroom with young and older students

I always find it challenging to address students of various ages. My classes have students from 17 - 65 all mixed together. If a student is younger, they are more interested in technological workflows. They prefer social media, computer software or websites like Moodle for class instruction, while the older students want a book, page number and a handout covering discussed topics. Furthermore, during lecture younger students are always engaged when I can bring popular music, movies, etc into discussion...but this is not well received by the older students who seem to enjoy a more straightforward teaching style. Im in my early 30s so I'm caught right in the middle. lol Any thoughts on how to bridge the generation gaps?

Motivating the Non-motivated

How do you motivate the student with every excuse in book about homework and attendance? Ive tried to motivate them with my personal story, Ive tried to motivate them with the light at the end of the tunnel story (graduation). What has worked for your most objective student.

Time Management

It is so important to have extra information when there is extra time. Taking advantage of all time alloted is important even if it is down time to reflect on information received.

Learnign Objectives

We hold meetings every 6 weeks to verify that the syllabus goals and learning objectives, daily lesson plans etc. are all in alignment.

Technology and it's "real world" application

I find students often don't realize the every day impact of utilizing technology, and or basic computer knowledge as it applies to their field. (we are a culinary school). Getting them to see the application by using every day sales reports, revenue statements etc. and how they are generated really helps.

Technology

Technology is very important with this generation and this day and time. The students in my classes use their computers to tape and also to monitor the lesson as I lecture. They are able to take notes on the power points as well. I love technology:)
