I observed an instructor last term and I saw the disadvantage of an instructor who was concerned about being a "Buddy" to the students. One student actually screamed at the instructor and the behavior was never addressed. After, I was given my own classes to teach and I chose to handle my class differently; rules and regulations clearly stated during the first class session, syllabus discussed; consequences for late work, tardiness, interruption of lecture, and disrespectful behaviors well also discussed. The learning environment turned out to be one conducive to promote learning of students with different learning styles and promote open respectful communication.
