Action plan - classroom management

I certainly agree that reflection is the path to improvement, whether after teaching a class, or after taking a class. In this case, I particularly appreciated the early comment about the first time you teach a class it is like being a test pilot. I am teaching two courses that I designed for the first time and I definitely am feeling it - particularly in one where I am trying out a "flipped classroom" model fully for the first time. 

I also am going to work on my issue with names. I find them very difficult to remember - always have. Nevertheless, I need to work on it. I think that my first step is going to be to get good strong cardstock to make nametags that can be stood up in front of each student. I'll ask them to turn them in each class so they don't get lost (my failing in the past). With the nameplates, I'll focus on using the names more often so that I learn them faster. 

I'd be curious about different methods others have used to encourage discussion with adults. I am using small group work and that is helpful and I have used "turn and talk". I also think that demonstrating that I will support anyone who tries to participate is very true - there was one video that described that point and I had not really thought of it in purposeful terms, but I do facilitate any participants to encourage them.
