Admission Professional of the Future?

So I'm curious what others think about the admissions rep of the future.  Will successful professionals of the future need different skills than what we've had in the past?  If so, in what areas?

I consider myself to be a professional customer service representative.  I never thought of myself as a "sales person" even though when I began in this position that is what I was called.  I do not like the thought of pushing folks to do something they do not want to do.  However, I will be a "guide" to someone looking to improve his or her circumstances.  That is how I view the position of the future admission professional.

absolutely correct! How you think of yourself to what you do is critical to what that little voice in your head is telling you. You can choose to sit on the sidelines or get in the game. I prefer to get in the game and go all out, I never push anyone, but I do lead them to make difficult and hard choices for themselves. Encouraging and reinforcing positive outcomes every step of the way with my future students. Your new student will respect you and believe in you and your product (college) more and enjoy a satisfying experience that will stay with them for their lifetimes.

Hi Jerry.  So it sounds as if you are saying that ATTITUDE is a key ingredient for success.  Is that right?

Hi Dr. Jean, I believe my attitude and how I feel about myself develops confidence that no matter the situation, I am able to overcome adversity and push forward to obtain the results I am seeking. I focus on outcomes, never getting to wrapped up in details along the way that only try to bring you down.

I think attitude palys a big part. If you have the attitude that you may be pushing someone (selling) then you probably aren't helping them. You will be creating your own obsticles and not uncovering true obsticles the student has. As far as the future, i think there is a new phenomenon (maybe not new) but recently developing. I have found a lot of students who haven't been responding to phone calls or emails are now more into texting. I feel very comfortable writting an email, but a text is new to me because so much is shortened and differnt acronyms. It just seems, especially the younger crowd, they prefer to communicate by text message.

I would agree that attitute is very important.
