Online Learning

Just as it happens in the brick and morta classrooms, so too does conflict happen in the online classes. Emotions can be transmitted acrosss thousands and thousands of miles. I have had online instructors who were very rude and whose personality comes off all wrong. Respect is nessary for good rapport. I have had students in my classes who were intimidators, but I had to maintain my emotional intelligene and be the unflinching leader I need to be, while at the same responding respectfully to the intimidators. The human entitity is always a challenge.

Teaching online can be challenging, some students may be set ion their opinions and they are very difficult to motivate to explore other ideas or viewpoints.  I try to address both or multiple sides to public policy issues as they relate to political science, law or our justice system.

As an online learning student once myself, i had set off some students of Christian University when talking about the beginningof life.  As a nurse im very science oriented and stepped over the line a little bit i ended up dropping the class due to some students not turning the other cheek.

Having taken classes online , I find that you must be self motivated and you will succeed.

I agree with Donna.  We do what we can do facilitate nurturing learning environment and to resolve conflict especially when it comes to the 'intimidators' and the 'noisy' students.  Some students can still be difficult to reach.  I would be interested in hearing about a success story or two.  What worked? What did not work?  I understand what Carrette is saying with regard to maintaing emotional intelligence and I personally have been tested.  I will be checking responses over the next couple of days.
