Active listening involves demonstrating empathy for students’ situations and experiences. By incorporating unconditional positive regard, you can foster a supportive relationship that helps students feel genuinely heard and understood.

active listening and offering non judgemental feedback will encourage students to meet their goals.

I appreciate the GROW model and believe it will be an effective tool in guiding students through the hesitancy they may face in searching for a job and the fear of success.

Utilizing mirroring, active listening, paraphrasing, reflecting emotions and asking questions are effective ways to build trust, connection, and show that you understand the person you are speaking to. I also plan to use the SNIP method when providing feedback to students. This method taught me how to give feedback in a positive manner.

Suggesting a shift away from using the word "why" was interesting to me; I don't think I realized the possibility of causing defensiveness through one simple word just asking for clarification. "What makes you say that?" it is, then!

I am looking forward to applying the SNIP model and use the proper framework to give constructive feedback.

A great reminder that how we give feedback matters. In Career Services, our goal is to guide graduates with clarity and support so they grow with confidence, not discouragement.

The lesson's takeaway is active listening, which can help students' perspectives.

I really appreciate the GROW Model of coaching and having that meaningful conversation(s) that hopefully is an engaging one.

The most important takeaway from this lesson for me is that the delivery of our suggestions matters a great deal in how it is received. Careful consideration should be given to our word choice. We can say the same thing in many ways and have it produce different student responses. We want to be constructive in our feedback. Asking permission before providing feedback can also help the student mentally prepare themselves to receive it without feeling as defensive.

The course is very beneficial. It has emphasized the importance of attentive listening, which enables students to feel understood without experiencing criticism or judgment.

So far, this course is excellent. The best part in my opinion is the short explanations to glean and remember making it a great tool to communicate with students to help them on their way. Hopefully these concepts will be received by students a sincere and genuine.

I learned that we have to listen sincerely when students talk. They should be treated as a friend, be respectful with their feelings.  We have to be objective when giving advices and understand their situations.  We can't judge them.  If we believe in students' potential, they will succeed and achieve their goal.

Clear communication and active listening are vital coaching strategies when guiding nursing students.

Active listening and constructive criticism are essential in career coaching, as they help build trust and provide meaningful guidance. By actively listening to clients’ concerns and offering feedback that is specific, actionable, and supportive, coaches empower individuals to grow professionally and achieve their career goals

The mirroring technique being used as an intentional technique to build trust, connection, and understanding with the student.  This is not something I knew about before but will take it into my advising technique.  Also, all of the models like OPUS and GROW are very helpful to help outline a plan.

SNIP method and specific examples on how to soften the feedback has been helpful

I learned the SNIP method of giving feedback. Also, how to provide feedback in a postivie manner.
