I always enjoy learning more about psychology. I learned that the most prevalent character strength is kindness. I feel that is definitely one of my strengths and will continue to use that with students, co-workers and anyone for that matter.
What I’ve Learned and How I Intend to Apply It
Through this module, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the importance of intentional reflection, empathy, and open-mindedness in both personal and professional settings. One of the most impactful takeaways for me has been the value of integrating well-being practices into my daily routine.
Moving forward, I will begin and end each workday with reflection, using the PERMA model and strength-spotting exercises to stay grounded, recognize growth, and maintain a positive outlook. This will help me stay aligned with my values and bring my best self to each day.
I also plan to be more mindful in every interaction—with students and colleagues alike—by practicing empathy and active listening. Rather than rushing to solve others’ problems or making assumptions, I will approach situations with curiosity and an open mind, asking thoughtful questions and seeking to understand before responding.
These practices will not only enhance my own well-being but also contribute to a more supportive and collaborative environment for those around me.
Maintaining a positive attitude improves your coping strategies, helps you accept constructive criticism, and enhances your ability to navigate challenging situations.
Having a positive attitude, betters your strength methods, your ability to obtain negative feedback and the way to handle certain situations in difficult moments.
Maintaining a positive attitude and recognizing positive attributes in others creates an environment ripe for productivity and is key to team-building.
This course has reminded me how important positive psychology is today. We see so much negativity in the world that our students need to feel they can count on us to guide them positively.
I appreciated how the information I learned aligns with my perspective on life and the world. Understanding these concepts is valuable because it ensures I actively demonstrate them to my students rather than assuming they already know them. Since everyone is at a different stage of awareness, it's our responsibility as educators to guide them in exploring and developing deeper insights.
I feel we all are driven as human to utilize the PERMA in our lives.
I liked the five questions and will try and meet them every day. The deep breathing before a test will help my students.
Having a positive mindset will help anyone get through hard challenges and obstacles
Journaling about the positive strengths will help students focus on the healthier aspects of learning. I really like this idea and plan on using it in my teaching style. Sometimes focusing on positive can be hard and it will help the students moral as they journey through a difficult subject like nursing to center on positive.
Comment on Verna Pitts's post: Love your outlook, thanks for sharing!
I am going to try PERMA, I have been doing a kind of inventory at the end of the day, but this is supposed to be more specific. I like this lesson; I see the connection with teaching.
A little positivity goes a long way!
I enjoyed learning about the PERMA model. I am going to implement this into my classrooms.
Comment on GURKAMAL SIDHU's post: This is a good idea. Students as well as instructors of some level of stress. Relaxation techniques could be beneficial to all. Introducing this type of exercise at the end of class may help build a positve rapport with students.
I liked that what I learned fell right into how I view the world and my own life. It helps to know these things so that I can make sure to exhibit them to the students and not just assume that they know them. Everyone is at a different level in their own awareness and, as instructors, it is our job to help them dig deeper.
I have learned some of what I sort of already knew, that positive responses to even the most negative events can help anyone manage better and even thrive. I learned ways to articulate this to others, rather than just having a nebulous internal concept that I struggled to communicate. New tools to use with my adult students as they navigate the world of work, family and school all rolled into one.
I've gained a formal understanding of positive psychology, which I previously knew only in an intuitive and informal way. More importantly, I've learned that as a professor, I can use and implement models such as PERMA and Character Strengths with both myself and my students, making a positive impact on their academic journey.
