very helpful

The information in this course was very helpful -- especially as someone who does not always work with the admissions aspect of the process.

EXPERIENFCE

I have a good experience

Using phone calls as a selling technique

This course provided various effective methods for making phone calls a powerful selling tool. I have worked in sales in the past, and during this course realized some of the pitfalls I fell into. First of all, I would call at the same time. I failed to use humor when leaving voice mails. I also failed to have a sense of urgency. I am excited about using these techniques in future business.

Importance of written communication

This course was very interesting because it dealt with how we commuicate with others on a variety of levels. For me personally, the majority of my interaction with students is written communication via email. Although I already had an understanding of the importance of checking your writing before sending it off, after this course i realized that refining and polishing one's writing is more essential than I realized. In many cases I am rushing to get back to someone and try to respond right away. While prompt responses are important, it is also important to maintain a professonial atmosphere to… >>>

Working with Different Generations

The majority of our work we deal with people of all ages.  Each person and situation is different.  We are a training facility that requires a student to fill out a lot paperwork for exam registration.  For those that are not familiar with the technological world, we walk them through the process step by step when completing their exam applications on line.  It can be an intimidating process but we do our best to make them feel comfortable and answer any questions they may have.  The key to our success is patience and understanding.  Put yourself in their shoes.

Communication hierarchy

I believe that small talk is a big part of the communication hierarchy. As this can end the advancement very quickly.

Admissions transparency

I believe this to be the most import topic of this traning. More transparency would help to provide prospective students with the information to make their experience better at whatever school they choose.

Advertising Agencies

I will definently look into more partnerships and take my time evaluating which agencies can offer me the most. I do minimal advertising now, but i do need to increase my enrollments, so i intend on working toward more of a fixed budget specifically for advertisting. The tracking system with also help to keep everything on track and to see exactly where my budget is being alloted. Great info!

Effective Listening and Reflecting

Ive always known the difference between Empathic and Sympathetic, however I didn't realize until taking this course how much I listen and converse sympathetically, meaning i listen and respond how I relate instead of listening to what is being said and what they are going through and how its affecting them. Even though its important to be able to direct someone through personal experience, its always best to understand how the circumstance effects them so i can understand exactly what they are saying or asking for. I am now more aware and intend on listening more empathetically. This will also… >>>

Listening skill

Demonstrate the ability to use the skills of listening and asking clarifying questions in role play situations

It's more than just selling

They don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care (no enabling though).....

Trust

Building a relationship and helping it to grow is all based on trust. being honest and transparent with the other person. Also having empathy and sympathy for the other person.

BEST PRACTICES

THIS WAS A GREAT REMINDER ON HOW TO APPROACH THE PERSPECTIVE STUDENTS WITH BEST PRACTICES. STARTING WITH THE INITIAL PHONE CALL ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO SEEING YOUR STUDENT SUCCESSFULLY START CLASS. I LEARNED SOME GREAT POINTERS ON HOW TO RESCHEDULED MY NO SHOWS. I WILL BE INCORPORATING THOSE PRACTICES IN MY EVERYDAY CALLS.

Using listening skills

Ive learned not talk to person in conversation until they complete their statements. Also not listening to self during, as to be ready to answer.

Communication Essentials

Its very important for all to  learn how to effectively listen and communicate feelings and views in respectful ways. Respect self and others  is key. Communication goes both ways: listening and responding properly causing no harm.

Understanding Generations

After completing the modules, I have learned about the significance of understanding the variance of generations and the need to approach each person with care and respect to how they best function. For traditionalists, its good to be respectful and direct; for baby boomers, it's good to know that they are hard-working and competitive; for generation x-ers, it's good to keep in mind that they have an entrepeneurial spirit; and for millennials, it's good to express positive reinforcement and creating a fun atmosphere.

Great Training

As a new employee with Vista College, I found the training to be invalutable.  It was applicable to my position and provided great insight that will allow me to better serve the student.

Admissions as Marketing

I think that the role of admissions director to have experience in marketing makes the job so much easier.
