About me

I started cosmetology school at the age of 16, attended full time and have been licensed since 17yrs old. I will be turning 35 this year and decided its time to teach these skills to others who have the passion to advanced in the cosmetology industry. I educate my clients while im working with them and I continuously hear what a great teacher I would be. This has fueled my desire to be an educator.

I am very excited to take these courses because it is giving me the tools and knowledge to direct each student throughout their entire enrollment, right up to graduation. I feel more confident that I will run a proficient and awarding program for all faculty and students at my institution.

I will definently look into more partnerships and take my time evaluating which agencies can offer me the most. I do minimal advertising now, but i do need to increase my enrollments, so i intend on working toward more of a fixed budget specifically for advertisting. The tracking system with also help to keep everything on track and to see exactly where my budget is being alloted. Great info!

Ive always known the difference between Empathic and Sympathetic, however I didn't realize until taking this course how much I listen and converse sympathetically, meaning i listen and respond how I relate instead of listening to what is being said and what they are going through and how its affecting them. Even though its important to be able to direct someone through personal experience, its always best to understand how the circumstance effects them so i can understand exactly what they are saying or asking for. I am now more aware and intend on listening more empathetically. This will also… >>>

I am so guilty of being way to Sympathetic. This course has really made me realize how to rephrase my words so im interacting more neutrally and less personal.

I have noticed my students do want to talk about a lot of their personal issues. i have had to realize, that as a mentor, i need to listen and provide positive feedback as it woud apply to helping them further their career. When do you draw a line. I run a cosmetology program, and a lot of the girls talk about boyfriends, and some domestic disputes. i feel as a professional i can only try to show them how the negativety at home can affect them in school and at work, but my question is, how personal is too… >>>

it is so true, when communicating face to face that our body language speaks loudest. sometimes i have to practice proper posture as well as prepare what to discuss before a meeting.

Even though i have a small institution only offering one program which is Cosmetology, i still benefited from this course by realizing each regulatory body will be more effecient with an audit plan in place. Once developed, the audit system will basically over see all regulatory bodies and ensure each department is operating according to all rules and laws. Also helping to maintain better retention, placement and  effecient enrollments.

Its hard to determine the boundary line between getting involved in a students personal life and remaining a professional instructor. I do see the relevence being we are with our students daily and can offer guidance in a productive way. Simply listening and allowing the student to vent is effective and relieving to them when we can assure them that the stressor isnt so stressful. Sometimes you just need to  listen. Great point!

Im not a T4 school either. Have you had your school long? I run my  school independently and I would appreciate any feedback as to why you dont have title 4 funding.

As I studied this course i printed a lot of the links so i can refer and utilize them.

I think one thing that is important  to students is the accurate calculation of refunds. Its important to go over each section to make sure they are fully aware how this policy is applied. I appreciate the regulations behind the policy as it gives a fare guide to follow.
