Mentoring can play an important role in student retention and can be either formal or informal. Students may be more open, engaged, and willing to communicate when they see the school and its staff as caring and supportive rather than unsupportive.
Creating an environment where students feel comfortable sharing their concerns and challenges can make a meaningful difference. By welcoming students to talk about what they may be facing and encouraging them to ask for help, we can address issues before they become overwhelming. This gives students an opportunity to receive the support they need instead of feeling that withdrawing or dropping out is their only option.
