No matter where you work, you will have to follow some type of compliance standards. As other readers have mentioned, sometimes compliance may feel like simply “checking off the boxes.” However, I believe a true culture of compliance goes beyond meeting requirements. It begins with mutual trust, starting at the top of the administration and extending throughout the organization.

Administrators must trust instructors and program managers to be honest, consistent, and committed to doing what is best for all students. At the same time, employees need to feel that their knowledge, judgment, and contributions are valued. When people feel trusted, respected, and appreciated, they are more likely to follow policies and procedures because they understand their purpose rather than simply complying because they are required to do so. A strong culture of compliance is ultimately built on trust, accountability, consistency, and a shared commitment to student success.
