This module reinforced the importance of designing online courses that are accessible, inclusive, and supportive of all learners from the beginning. I learned that Universal Design is not just about accommodations for students with disabilities; it is about creating learning experiences that provide multiple ways for students to access content, engage with material, and demonstrate their learning. I also learned the importance of maintaining high expectations while respecting diverse talents, abilities, and learning preferences.
As an online instructor, I intend to apply these principles by providing course materials in multiple formats, ensuring accessibility in documents and media, encouraging active learning, and offering timely feedback. I will continue to create learning environments that support a wide range of learners and reduce barriers to participation and success. This module reminded me that thoughtful course design benefits all students, not just those who require accommodations.
