In this unit I learned that social media can be a powerful tool to enhance online learning when it is used with clear objectives and responsibility. Social networking platforms allow students to share resources, ask questions, and collaborate beyond the limits of the virtual classroom. They also help to create a sense of community, which is especially important in online courses where interaction can sometimes feel limited.
What I found most useful is that effective use of social media is not about using every platform available, but about choosing the right ones and establishing guidelines. For example, a closed Facebook or WhatsApp group can be helpful for quick communication and reminders, while LinkedIn can be used to build professional networks related to the course topics.
In my case, I plan to apply this by setting up a class group on a platform where students feel comfortable participating. I will encourage respectful discussion, sharing of reliable sources, and collaborative projects that can extend classroom learning. I also intend to establish rules about digital etiquette and information credibility so that the group remains a safe and productive space.
