I like that Ben Franklin quote: "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"
Students must be encouraged to make a plan for success in the course. To include time management and goal setting for each day. If the plan does not require effort and a bit of sacrifice, it may not have the necessary rigor to meet all expectations.
The 7 Principals are straightforward but need to be incorporated into concrete practices by instructors:
- encourage interaction between student and instructor (make sure class is not a one way communication, students need to be producers of information not just consumers)
- encourage active learning
- Emphasize time on task (talk to students about the commitment they have made)
Generally have a way that the students know the instructor is engaged and cares about each student's progress. Value each student's input in a safe environment.
