I will use more validating and security centered language when having class discussions. I basically utilize the security tactic because it was what I needed as a student was security and confidence in myself and what I learned.
Autonomy is a little difficult because of the material being covered and time allowed. I kind of plan out the day, but I do let them decide how they get the review (online quizzes, online game, oral questions etc...). I've also let them decide when lecture is (like what hour). Depending on the course, I also let them tell me the order of due dates and we work through that at the start of the course together, which gives them a sense of ownership in their learning.
