I learned that diversity is an important component to understanding the specific nuances of each class set and individuals. Each student will have something important to bring to the table. Each student learns differently. Each has their own goals. I think learning about the student as much as possible in the first part of courses is key to success for the whole class.
Implementation: I would have each student fill out a form about themselves that would allow me to get to know them better as a reference sheet. This would help me better build lessons and improve participation and rapport.
