Hi Melissa, Great approach to getting your students settled down and ready to progress in your course. Everyone of us approaches a new situation with a case of nerves, sometimes the nerves are small and other times they really get to us, depending how the situation works out. By you giving them a clear understanding of expectations, outcomes, and career blocks being developed they should be ready to go with minimum cases of nerves. Something you might want to do during your first class meeting once you have covered the logistical and course requirements, is to have some easy fun activities that the students can do to get them in the cycle of learning. A Jeopardy game on the names of medical instruments or electrical tools, etc. Name that word or term is another game my students liked to play. Point is the students learn a little more about each other, themselves and the content of the course without excess stress being put upon them. Once you have done this you can focus on moving forward with the formal components of the course with your students having experienced beginning success through the activities that you have taken them through during the introductory part of the course.
