making a positives impact

We encourage Instructors to Ask students why are they here and what do they expect to get out of this class on the first day of class ..

By talking to a student when he/she is upset over something they are not understanding and making them feel better about themselves is a very positive impact for a student

We ask that of our new students at our orientation. It gives them a spoken goal to always keep in fornt of them.

At Orientation we ask our studnts what there expectations are of us and the school? We tell them that we are here to help in assisting them in any way we can,for them to have a positive and successful education. No concern is to small or big as long as we keep a positive line of communication open.

Linda,

Thanks for this interesting post. What are some of the most common "expectations" your students have of your school? What about the most unusual expectations?

Jeffrey Schillinger

Have the instructor to ask that question 3-4 weeks later. It will be a tool to see if the instructor is reaching everyone and make adjustments if needed. "Student & Self evaluation/observation"

Helen,

Always test and measure throughout the term.

in addition, we ask students to share in week 4 if their expectations of the class material has met their satisfaction, what they were excited to get out of , what they liked the most, what they can do with the learning in today's workforce.
