Stress

Stress is an emotional battle that you can overcome

True, but that's easier said than done sometimes, Debbie. Does your institution have a particular programs in place to make this happen?

This is true but we learn on dealing with stress on a daily bases helps us to recoup at the end of the day

You can over come stress, the thing is to find a healthy out lit for stress, such as exercise or a hobby that a person really enjoys. Another way would be to write a list as to why you are going to school to help remember the reasons you started going to school. Of course, just finding someone you trust to talk to about your problems an also relief stress and make a person feel better.

You will never overcome stress but you can learn how to better deal with it. Massage, meditation, yoga, positive self talk are all ways to manage stress. Sometimes a lifestyle change may be necessary as well to lower stress levels.

To overcome stress the individual often time needs to resolve a problem. All to often students do not possess simple problem solving skills. This is something we should teach in our introductory classes.

Michelle, are those lifestyle change alternatives presented to the students?

Another good point, Robert. What's the next step to add simple problem solving to the introductory classes?

You could have instructors inject problem solving exercises into their course.

Aren't problem solving exercises already part of the curriculum, Robert?

They are. However, I like to have instructors use situational exercises to discuss workplace issues

While it is true that stress can be overcome it is critical to notice that a student is feeling stress so that assistance can be offered early. The instructors who are with the student every day need to keep a keen eye out for changes in a students personality.

Patrick, are there specific things that you look for to identify students who are feeling stress?
