Special considerations

There are students with dusabilities not easy to idrntify. How to proceed with those cases if the student is not openly sharing?

You may be asked at the time of applying to the university if he/she has a disability and what type to make the necessary arrangements to help his/her.

Students - just like anyone- have a right to privacy.  As someone with a non-visible disability, I find it easy to relate and respect.  There is no sense in prying on any medical condition.  When they have challenges and struggles, we can peel the onion to see where the root of the issue is, to be able to offer the best resources and solutions.  But medical conditions are a different consideration, and sometimes even the most careful and gentle questions of concern could be considered a violation of their medical rights.  I've always thought it best, if they are not openly sharing, to simply let them know our policies and that they can request accommocations if they need anything.  And when they do, I forward them on to our compliance and legal team and then provide the student with what we are able to.  The most important thing is to always treat them with respect and dignity and understand that they may not want to share much about thier disabilities.  And that's ok.

Each school organization, will have set gudielines in which you have to follow.

This is a fabulous resource
